Meet Gary, the baby Kereru!
Room 9 had a surprise visitor today, when Charley brought a rescued baby pigeon to school. The pigeon had been found by Dustin, after it had fallen out of its nest, high up in a tall tree. It had no feathers at all and couldn't feed itself. Over the week that Charley's family have been nursing the pigeon, it has grown some feathers and learnt how to eat dry food. They still give it water to ensure that it is hydrated.
Dustin has named the bird Gary and although it is hard to tell for sure, we think that Gary is a native wood pigeon, a kereru.
